Two Simple Algorithms for Displaying Orthographic Projections of Surfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
Two simple algorithms are described for displaying orthographic projections of surfaces. The first, called RELIEF-PLOT, produces a three-dimensional plot of a surface z = f(x,y). The second, called SHADED-IMAGE, adds information about surface reflectivity and source illumination to produce a grey level image of a surface z f(x,y). Both algorithms demonstrate how a systematic profile expansion can be used to do hidden surface elimination essentially for free. Work reported herein was conducted at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Support for the laboratory's artificial intelligence research is provided in part by the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the Department of Defence under Office of Naval Research Contract number N00014-75C-0643

A model based, anatomy dependent method for ultra-fast creation of primary SPECT projections
Introduction: Monte Carlo (MC) is the most common method for simulating virtual SPECT projections. It is useful for optimizing procedures, evaluating correction algorithms and more recently image reconstruction as a forward projector in iterative algorithms; however, the main drawback of MC is its long run time. We introduced a model based method considering the eff...
متن کاملAlgorithms for the Computer Simulation of 2D Projections from Structures Determined by Dividing Surfaces
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) data come in the form of twodimensional projections of specimens with finite width. For visual interpretation of such data it is valuable, and for quantitative comparison with models essential, to have available a method for generating simulated projections from model structures. We present three computer algorithms that simulate TEM micrographs, from stru...

Splatting is a popular direct volume rendering algorithm that was originally conceived and implemented to render orthographic projections. This paper describes an anti-aliasing extension to the basic splatting algorithm, as well as an error analysis, that make it practical to use for perspective projections. To date, splatting has not correctly rendered cases where the volume sampling rate is h...
متن کاملHow Many 2D Silhouettes Does It Take to Reconstruct a 3D Object?
R is a bounding volume which more or less closely approximates O, depending on the viewpoints and the object A 2D silhouette of a 3D object O constrains O inside the volume obtained by back-projecting the silhouette from the itself. For perspective projection the regions Ci are cones viewpoint. A set of silhouettes specifies a boundary volume R, obtained by back-projecting from a viewpoint V th...

In the main it is firmly grounded on mathematical principles accom...
